Our History
Alstonville Community Preschool Inc. is a volunteer, not-for-profit organisation that is committed to providing a quality preschool service in Alstonville and is managed by a group of parents and community members.
Founded in November, 2010, Alstonville Community Preschool Inc was formed following an announcement that after 41 years of operation, Alstonville’s only preschool (Alstonville Baptist Community Preschool) intended to close. Parents, staff and community members recognised a need to retain a community preschool in Alstonville and began working towards this goal. What began as a group of concerned community members proactively working together soon became a much larger community effort.
With no available money or land for the purpose, we were very fortunate when in December 2012 Ballina Shire councillors voted to re-categorise a site on Crawford Park as suitable land for community use.
On the 3rd of February 2014, Alstonville Community Preschool opened our doors for the first time, fully staffed, fully enrolled and fully operational, although in temporary premises at Amaze’n Place Alstonville, while we worked on applying for grants and obtaining Capital funding to build a larger purpose built preschool on the Crawford Park site.
In February 2016, we began operations in the new building and have gone from strength to strength ever since.
While overcoming these formidable barriers the Alstonville community has held strong in its resolve to provide the best start for our children as they embark on their educational journeys. Alstonville Community Preschool is a ‘community’ preschool in the true sense of the word.
